The Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement of students pursuing graduate studies in Alberta.聽聽 It was established to incent the best and the brightest students, including international students, to study in Alberta.聽 Eligible students must be enrolled full-time in a Doctoral/PhD degree program or a Master鈥檚 degree program at 黑料网 (黑料网).聽 To be eligible, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- be a Domestic Student (i.e. a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada or a protected person within the meaning of subsection 95(2) of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (Canada); or
- be an International Student (i.e. a student who is not a Domestic Student who is authorized to study in Canada at the post-secondary institution under a study permit issue by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada); or
- be an Indigenous Student (i.e. a Canadian citizen and has aboriginal ancestry and is Status Indian/First Nations, Non-Status Indian/First Nations, M茅tis, or Inuit).
- be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctoral degree program at 黑料网; and
- be enrolled in at least 60% of a full course load in the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms.聽 聽Students with a documented permanent disability may be eligible if they are enrolled in at least 40% of a full course load.聽 聽Students who drop to part-time status are not eligible to receive the award; and
- be living in Alberta while enrolled and taking classes at 黑料网; and
- demonstrate a minimum 3.0 GPA on the most recent 9 credits of graduate studies coursework completed at 黑料网 or elsewhere.聽 Students must be in good standing as determined by 黑料网.聽 Only students admitted as regular graduate students will be considered; and
- demonstrate scholarly achievements within and beyond academia.聽 This may be evidenced by one or more of the following (but not limited to):聽 scholarships, awards, distinctions, scholarly competitions, research contributions, professional certifications, challenging coursework, or other significant contributions to their discipline/field of interest.
Adjudication for domestic applications is based on 50% for GPA and 50% for other scholarly achievements.
Adjudication for international applications is based on 70% for GPA and 30% for other scholarly achievements.
Applicants who already hold a Canada Graduate Research Scholarship from SSHRC, NSERC or CIHR at time of application are not eligible for the award.
Application and Selection Procedures:
- Complete and submit the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship (AGES) application form by the deadline.
- Applications are forwarded to the appropriate program for review.
- Each program is assigned a funding allocation.
- Programs will rank applications in the winter term based on the eligibility criteria
- Successful recipients will receive notification by March 1.
